Faithless

British band Faithless announced they will be playing Glastonbury Festival this year while on stage at the o2 in Leeds last night

The band last played in 2002 and I have been hoping they would play again since I started going, personally I can’t wait, but I know it’s gonna clash with something I really want to see

Damon Albarn has also been speaking to the NME and has revealed that Gorillaz will be playing some “Big gigs” during 2010, but not Glastonbury Festival

“Are we playing any UK festivals? I wouldn’t want to go and play Glastonbury or anything because I think it would be very difficult and I would be setting myself a very high benchmark.
But we are definitely going to play some big gigs in the UK, or in England, or in London or whatever. This year. Definitely.

The band are sounding really good and I’m really excited about it. I try to keep myself busy, I don’t think it’s good to rest on your laurels.”

The Stanglers have confirmed on their website that they will be playing Glastonbury Festival 2010

A note on their homepage reads as follows

And they said it would never happen!

The Stranglers are playing at Glastonbury. Despite many years of rumours about feuds between the band and organisers, we can confirm they will be appearing at Britain’s best known festival in Pilton on Friday 25th June.

Unfortunately, the festival is already totally sold out but the band is following a Glastonbury tradition and will be playing a low-key warm up in the West country area the night before their appearance.

Details of the low-key gig must remain under wraps for the time being but we will announce the details through the site as soon as we are able. This gig is happening to reward any disappointed fans in the area (and beyond) who are unable to get into Glastonbury.

We’ll bring you the ticket link as soon as we have it. We also hope that for those of us unable to attend the festival, the BBC treats us to some great live footage of the band over the course of the weekend.

He revealed that Muse would headline the Saturday (26 June) and that it was probable the legendary Stevie Wonder would close the festival as the main act on the Sunday (27 June), completing the line up with U2 on the Friday (25 June).

Eavis also revealed the event cost £25m to put on each year, with most of the money going to securing the perimeter.

There are also discussions to ban large flags at the event in an area in front of the stage. Eavis said he was keen to clear a line of sight for the audience but his daughter, Emily, who also runs the event, wanted the flags to stay.

Update from Glastonbury Press Office

“We are hoping to confirm Muse for the Saturday, later today we hope,” the Glastonbury Press office have told 6 Music.

According to their spokesperson, an announcement could be made by close of shop on Tuesday (2 Feb) through their own official website.

In response to rumours of a performance from Stevie Wonder, a statement reads: “It is very much a possibility but he’s still only on Michael Eavis’ wish list – so not 100% confirmed, it’s pending.”
